Atlanta’s Gluten-free News – January 17th

Arepa Mia made it onto USA Trips to Discover’s best gluten-free restaurants in Atlanta list and their National list too. This isn’t surprising at all because their Venezuelan cuisine is layered with rich flavors and textures that don’t need gluten to impress. And they are a dedicated gluten-free restaurant, so figuring out what to order takes some time. Visit the eatery in Avondale Estates and at Sweet Auburn Curb Market in Atlanta and discover the flavor-bomb of authentic Venezuelan cuisine

Batter Cookie Dough will open their second permanent brick and mortar shop in February 2020 at Powers Ferry Square on Roswell Road in Buckhead, says ToneToATL. It will occupy the former Bon Glaze doughnut shop which closed abruptly this past September. Located adjacent to bartaco, which has an array of gluten-free fare, the shop offers two flavors of gluten-free cookie dough scooped with dedicated and labeled utensils.

According to ToneToATL, the operator of an Alpharetta Chick-fil-A restaurant is planning to demolish his current restaurant and build a new, bigger, more efficient location in its place. David Thornsberry, who has operated the freestanding Chick-fil-A on North Point Parkway since it opened on December 16, 1993, wants to replace the current 4,446 square foot restaurant with a new 7,855 square foot restaurant or about a 77 percent increase in floor space. The new restaurant is designed to improve both the customer experience and store efficiency.

Egg Harbor Cafe on Lower Roswell and Woodlawn closed December 15th due to lease issues.

There is a new dedicated gluten-free bakery and restaurant in Roswell called Huh Natural & Real Food. Located in the space formerly occupied by Gluten Free Cutie, this family business dedicated to creating nutritious gluten and dairy-free products. Pizzas topped with housemade cashew cheese, salads, bagel sandwiches, cake, cinnamon rolls, biscotti, and cookies are just a potion of their offerings, which change daily.

Looking forward to the opening of Maepole, a fast-casual, health-conscious venture from Athens-based chef Peter Dale. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the restaurant will make a late-2020 debut on Georgia Avenue. The menu reads like a build-your-own bowl space serving hormone- and antibiotic-free meats and grass-fed beef. All items will be free of high-fructose corn syrup, and gluten and soy will be called out on the menu, but there is no indication of steps being taken to prevent cross contact during preparation.

Finally, Marie Eiffel Market has their website up and running and all of their products are made in their new dedicated gluten-free kitchen on Shelter Island. Now you can order Luce’s Artisan Gluten-Free Bread Mixes from Marie Eiffel’s by just clicking HERE. Trust me, these mixes are easy to use and produce artisan style gluten-free breads with a crunchy crust and fluffy bread. Treat yourself!

Marilyn’s Gluten Free Gourmet is adding two new biscuit flavors in 2020. No word on what those flavors are yet, but I could definitely go for a chive or rosemary biscuit.
